What is my approach to individual therapy?

I get to know you first and foremost, then we craft a plan to suit your needs, which may pull from various modalities, including, but not limited to:

  • We might take a walk, put our feet in the grass, or even explore themes of nature right in the office.

  • Art takes many forms, as do emotions. We may play with art as a means of expressing and exploring your inner world.

  • Often our past traumas influence our current experiences and by processing somatically (think mind/body connection and things like yoga and deep breathing), we can start to reshape our misplaced fight/flight responses.

  • Brainspotting utilizes eye gaze to help identify points where stress and trauma are stuck in the body. We then work together to somatically process those feelings and experiences as they come up in session.

  • Teddy plays a big role in treatment for some folks - a tactile experience  of petting Teddy while processing trauma can be grounding and a couch buddy can help some folks feel at ease. If you’re not comfortable with dogs, just let me know and we will adjust accordingly!

  • Exploring the connections between your past experiences and present behaviors + emotions. By learning from the past, we can work to rewrite the present.

  • Life is big and complex. Sometimes symptoms are not clearly tied to past experiences or patterns, but may be more representative of the existential space we all inhabit from time to time. We may explore that.
